DO YOUR TOURS REQUIRE HIKING?

Some of our tours do not require hiking, although they do have photo ops where you will be getting out of the vehicle and doing short walks on uneven terrain. Our ATV/Hiking combination tour does include a short hike. This tour can be customized based on fitness level.

SHOULD WE TIP OUR GUIDE, AND IF SO HOW MUCH?

It is customary to tip the guide, especially when they provide you with exceptional service. Gratuity is based on individual preference but we suggest 20% which is the industry standard. All tips are cash only.

WILL THERE BE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE TOUR?

Although our tours are intimate due to vehicle size there will likely be other guests on the tour. For information on reserving a private vehicle, please contact us via our contact page or call 480-522-5328.

 

IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL WE NEED TO BRING OR WEAR?

Dress in comfortable clothing suitable for being outdoors. We ask that you wear closed toed shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain and bring bottled water with you. Don’t forget to bring a camera and binoculars if you have them!

 

CAN I BRING A TRIPOD OR BACKPACK?

Sure, however there is no storage space in our vehicles.  Anything you bring needs to fit comfortably in your lap throughout the tour.

 

CAN I BRING FOOD OR LIQUOR?

If necessary you are welcome to bring a small snack such as a granola bar. Due to Arizona law, alcoholic beverages are prohibited on our tours.

 

ARE ANY ITEMS NOT PERMITTED ON YOUR TOURS?

For the comfort of all guests, items prohibited include the following list:

ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED?

Yes, we do require you to book your tour in advance via our contact page, or by calling 48 hours in advance. We do have limited tour times available, and often sell out.

WHAT TIME DO YOUR TOURS DEPART?

Our regular tours depart everyday promptly at 8am and 4pm. The Close Encounter Elk tour begins just before sunrise for the morning tour and 2 hours before sunset for the evening tour.

 

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Rim Country Tours has a 48-hour cancellation policy in order to receive a refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will not be refunded.

 

CAN I RESERVE A PRIVATE TOUR?

Yes, as long as you purchase all available seats in your tour vehicle. To reserve a private tour, call 480-522-5328.

Weather

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN PAYSON?

The weather in Payson is typically about 15 to 20 degrees cooler than in Phoenix.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

Our tours operate rain or shine. Arizona rainfall is generally very short lived, and may offer the chance for you to see rainbows or waterfalls over the Mogollon Rim. We do carry rain ponchos in the vehicles in case of inclement weather. In the case of extreme weather, Rim Country Tours reserves the right to modify, shorten or cancel any tour to prevent damage to trails or avoid unsafe conditions.

 

HOW MUCH SUN EXPOSURE WILL I GET WHILE ON AN ATV TOUR?

Our ATV’s have full roofs that offer some relief from sun exposure.  We recommend wearing a hat and sun glasses and bringing a bottle of water.

DO YOUR ATV’s HAVE SEATBELTS?

Yes, all of the seats have full seatbelts.

 

ARE YOUR TOURS SAFE?

Yes!  Our guides are CPR certified and highly trained in how to maneuver the vehicles on the back country trails and climb safely down into the caves.

CAN CHILDREN GO ON THE TOURS, AND WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITS?

Yes, we allow children as young as 4 years on most of our tours and 7 years on our Elk Close Encounter tour. We provide helmets for those under 16 years of age.

CAN PREGNANT WOMEN GO ON YOUR TOURS?

It is not recommended due to the rough terrain and bouncy nature of our tours.

 

HOW MANY GUESTS DO YOUR VEHICLES ACCOMMODATE?

Our ATV’s can accommodate a group of 8 people total.

 

IS ALCOHOL PERMITTED ON YOUR TOURS?

No alcohol is permitted in our vehicles.

 Guests are responsible for getting themselves in and out of our vehicles for their tour.

 

CAN SENIORS TAKE THE TOURS?
